An evening of Wine and Food pairing takes place at Three Wise Monkeys Colchester on Tuesday 10th of November in collaboration with our wine supplier Street Wines Ltd.
We will be presenting an evening of Wines from our wine list supplied to us from Street Wines, matched with a paired tasting menu from Three Wise Monkeys.
The night will be hosted by Three Wise Monkeys General Manager Charlie Rogers and Neils Dubro, the owner of Street Wines Ltd.
A glass of Sparkling will be given to guests on arrival before the meal and then we will be showcasing two white wines and two red wines from the Three Wise Monkeys wine list.
Drawing on the knowledge and experience of the presenters we will be taking you on a journey through wine tasting and the world of wine. We will investigate the New World and the Old World of wine and will be discusing what makes food and wine work so well together.
This will be a fun and informative evening which is sure to be popular. Due to social distancing requirements, ticket availability is strictly limited.
Tickets are priced at £30, available via DesignMyNight (subject to £3 booking fee)
There will also be opportunities to speak to Neils about his services and he will be bringing some wines along which will be available to purchase on the night.
About your hosts
Street Wines owner, Neils Dubro
Street Wines is a bit different to your traditional slightly stuffy Wine Merchant. We don’t have a long heritage and we don’t hold a Royal Warrant to sell to the Queen! But we do offer passion and fun, built on my own personal journey into the wonderful world of wine.
As a youth I attended catering college but it turned out I wasn’t that much of a chef. However, on a trip around Italy I discovered wine, and soon afterwards I got a job with Oddbins. I built up my knowledge by buying up all the charity shop wine books I could find. Oddbins was a brilliant & unusual wine company where we were sent on courses and even to wine regions. During the recession the shop closed & I was made redundant. My redundancy pay was poor & I risked a lot by spending it all on good wines I had learnt about, putting them on a list & then taking it around the streets to previous customers, bars & restaurants – which is why I named my business Street Wines.
Our business has grown and thrived on two founding principles: buy quality (there’s plenty of terrible wine out there!) & treat everybody with kindness, from the customer who wants a single bottle of wine to enjoy themselves, to the customer living in the largest house in the village buying cases.
Although we started small & without a shop this has helped us to offer unbeatable value. We have no minimum order, and we deliver free (often on the same day) to Colchester & nearby areas. Delivery outside of Colchester is £12. We specialise in two areas – Everyday Wines where we offer quality mixed cases for £75, & Classic Wines from family producers. Our website features many different wines which we have sourced from auctions & private collections. We have also recently introduced a successful loyalty card scheme that rewards all customers with a bottle of decent Champagne every time they reach 60 bottles of wine from us.
Three Wise Monkeys General Manager Charlie Rogers F.B.I.I.
Our very own General Manager is no stranger to wine as in his last job he reached the final of wine pub of the year for three consecutive years. When he isn’t busy running the venue he owns a farm in the South of France a purchase influenced either by the love of or the consumption of wine!
His own wine journey comes through working in the trade for many years and having been a chef and general manager of several award winning pubs with over two decades of experience in the trade.
He was made a fellow of the British institute of Innkeeping in 2006 and has been in the General manager position at Three Wise Monkeys for over a year.
